Don't misunderstand the title. Each and every one of you -- even the well-meaning and semi-productive among you -- will alas be scrutinized, challenged, and held accountable on a deeply pervasive level for your every complicity, inaction, tone deafness, greedy squabbling, and "relationship" with lobbyists and corporations.
As Americans we failed ourselves by electing you. This will end. Take heed.
While you continue to spend the majority of your time fund-raising for the next election cycle -- counting on the citizens of our great country to remain busy arguing divisively and muddily over bathrooms or whom the next president-grand-supreme should be -- you will soon suffer a major rift in the form of what is commonly referred to as liability. Do you know what "liability" means? Yes? No? Don't fret, you will soon find out.
What do *I* mean by liability? Well, among other things, I mean that Black Lives Matter, Occupy Wall Street, the burgeoning anti-establishment Democratic "revolution," and even the oft-misguided Tea Party, now know that it is you who embody both the root cause as well as so many of the symptoms of countless barbaric inequities, of shameless fear-mongering, of staggeringly immoral conflicts of interest, of historic inertia (what is your approval rate these days? 11% 9%?), and of the most disparate gap between the rich and the poor in all of human history.
Congratulations. You must be so proud.
In the wake of the so-called Pulse Shooting -- the worst mass shooting in U.S. history -- an appallingly few of you have tweeted your ever-effective thoughts and prayers from your luxury vehicles and your multi-million-dollar homes. How charming.
Here's the thing, though: in the past we would have blamed the NRA. Or the mentally ill. Or radicals, terrorists, and fanatics. We would have blamed the media, video games, recording artists, transgender people, Muslims, you name it. But no longer.
The reality, of course, is that we in the U.S. have no one to blame but ourselves. We were thoughtless, preoccupied, ignorant, indifferent, dismissive, and overly trusting. But, know this, we have reached our tipping point, albeit embarrassingly latently. And we have finally followed the money. Take a wild guess as to where it originates? Go on. Humor us.
For this will be your last laugh. Soak it in while the blood of so many innocent citizens soaks in your soft, little hands.
Many of you have precious little time until November to right some of your numerous wrongs -- to push through legislation that protects the vulnerable, that emboldens and benefits the middle class, that eschews your oligarchic puppet masters. But we're not holding our breath. Instead we're counting down the days to vote you out in November. I recommend you start networking with your corporate cronies for a cushy job now. Go be useless somewhere else and on someone else's dime.
Until then, our thoughts and prayers are with you.
