Leaked GOP Screening Series: 10 Movies Helping Republicans Stay Bold, Agressive and Insane

An earlier version of this post originally published on Alternet

Last week, Republican Representative Kevin McCarthy attempted to unify his party behind Speaker Boehner's "cut, snip and slash" bill by showing them an inspiring scene from the film The Town which contains the following exchange between two criminals:

Doug MacRay (Ben Affleck): I need your help. I can't tell you what it is. You can never ask me about it later. And we're going to hurt some people.

James Coughlin (Jeremy Renner): Whose car are we going to take?

It turns out the thing MacRay needs help with is beating and shooting a man. And apparently the screening was successful, inspiring Rep. Allen West to say "I'm ready to drive the car."

And this week, once again, the Republicans were able to unite around austerity and social stratification! The House and Senate passed a debt bill "compromise" which was so compromise-y Boehner was able to say, "I got 98 percent of what I wanted. I'm pretty happy."

The Republicans are boasting of their victories and attacking Obama. They are rallying their troops, providing them with talking points written on cards. But no propaganda works better than the silver screen. This is a leaked list of the ten movies the GOP is screening to make sure they stay on the offensive, as they fight for the wealthy and attack middle and working class people, poor people, people of color, LGBTQ people, disabled people, endangered species, the earth...I could go on but we don't have all day...
