December's Taxicab is racing from the airport.

Two old friends ride in the back seat, talking 100 miles an hour. They haven't seen each other for one whole year. There's a lot to catch up on.

Christmas and New Year's are having a conversation.

"Last year you were going to call me on the Fourth of July. We were going to celebrate together, remember?"

"Yes, I know, I know. We go through this every year. Anyway, we're together now, so let's shake to the old team: Mr. Sentimentality & Mr. Optimism."

Laughing, they shake hands.

"Remember when we first met? I kept asking everybody, 'Why is that guy following me around? Does he ever do anything besides go to wild parties?' Then I found out about your 'clear-the-slate-fresh-start' routine. The countdown bit. Auld Lang Syne, the champagne, the resolutions, the kisses at midnight... it's really great."

"Wild parties?!? The first time we went out you were so quiet and introspective. Going on and on about Tradition, singing those quiet little songs... I figured you just needed a little loosening up."

They stare at each other for a long time. The meter is ticking...

"You know, we run around in a panic whenever we're together. Everything is last-minute. And there's always something we've forgotten. Still, I value this time together more than anything..."

"There he goes, Mr. Sentimental... Listen, this year's gonna be the best ever, you watch. Even better than last year. Maybe even better than all the years put together..."

"And will we see each other in July, Mr. Optimism?"

"Yes, we will..."

Merry Christmas 2009.
Happy New Year 2010.
