Deion Sanders' Funky Toe Is Why He Will Never Be On 'Dancing With The Stars'

Why Deion Sanders Will Never Be On 'DWTS'

After his Hall-of-Fame, often polarizing and downright entertaining football career ended, Deion Sanders — who gave himself the nickname "Prime Time" — never really left the spotlight.

Since his playing days ended, Sanders has been an analyst for NFL Network. He also has his own reality show, "Deion's Family Playbook," on the OWN Network, his second reality series after his first one, "Deion & Pilar: Prime Time Love," ended in 2008.

In a HuffPost Live interview Wednesday, host Nancy Redd posed the obvious question to Sanders: why isn't he on "Dancing With The Stars?" Former athletes with enough personality for the small screen is essentially "DWTS'" wheelhouse, as fellow football greats Emmitt Smith, Jerry Rice, Hines Ward and Warren Sapp have made appearances.

"I would not be great on 'Dancing With The Stars.' I'll show you why," Sanders said, directing the camera to point directly at a mangled toe on his left foot. "That's three toe surgeries. You think I can go on 'Dancing With The Stars' with that? You think that could hold up for 'Dancing With The Stars?' I'm just going to leave it right there while we conversate."

Toe problems among NFL players are not uncommon, as the AstroTurf of many stadiums during Sanders' playing days caused so many toe problems they named an injury after it: turf toe.

Sanders' ailment is enough to sideline him from a prime time television show he was made for. Oh well.
