The days when Demi Lovato shied away from discussing her love for beau Wilmer Valderrama are long gone, and now the 23-year-old singer is also vocal about her preference for Latino men, overall.

"When I dated white guys, it wasn't as passionate as my relationship with Wilmer," Lovato told Latina magazine in a recent interview. "Maybe that's just Wilmer. But I do believe that Latin people are just more expressive, more passionate with their emotions."

Lovato, who appears on the cover of the June/July issue of the magazine, also opened up about Valderrama's personality and how he treats her.

"He's very manly, and he can be stubborn like Latino men can, but he's protective and he cares so much and loves so hard," she said. "I've been blessed enough to have him in my life, and not just as my man, but also my best friend.”

Lovato and Valderrama, who celebrated their sixth-year anniversary in January, remained tight-lipped about their relationship until 2014, when the two first began publicly expressing their love for each other on social media.

But since then, the "Confident" singer has also made it a point to express her gratitude. In an interview with HuffPost Live in May, Lovato credited Valderrama with saving her life as she recovered from her drug addiction and an eating disorder.

"He'll never take credit for a lot of my sobriety and my recovery, but I guarantee it, I wouldn't be alive without him today," she said.
