Brian Cashman On Derek Jeter: 'I Can See Him Moving To The Outfield'

Jeter To Play Center Field?

While taking questions from fans on WFAN in New York on Tuesday, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said he could see Derek Jeter playing in the outfield later in his career.

Cashman responded to a fan's question and said that he would be "surprised if he played shortstop all four years. I see him moving to the outfield."

In December, the legendary shortstop signed a three-year contract worth $51 million with a player option for 2014 worth $8 million.

"I like corner outfielders and corner infielders who have power, so for me, if he's ever gonna move, it's probably gonna be a Robin Yount situation. But we don't have to deal with it at this point," Cashman explained. "We'll deal with it when we have to."

Later, Cashman toned down his comments and told Newsday that there are no plans to move Jeter to the outfield.
