Derek Redmond's Incredible Journey (VIDEO)

WATCH: Olympian Derek Redmond's Incredible Journey

In 1992, British athlete Derek Redmond became one of most celebrated figures in Olympic history -- despite never having won an event. It was the 400m semi-final of the Barcelona Olympics and Redmond, who was one of the sprinters tipped to win, tore a hamstring only minutes from the finish line. As emergency staff rushed to his aid, a weeping Redmond hobbled to his feet and began limping to the finish line -- he knew he had to finish. His father ran out from the audience and held him until he made to the end, while an audience of millions stood up and gave him a standing ovation.

The video -- a testament to the triumph of the human spirit -- since become immortalized in Nike and Visa commercials. This week, it was KarmaTube's video of the week. It is a tribute to the sheer power of determination as well as a symbol of a father's unconditional love. Redmond, who was never able to run again, now works as a motivational speaker.
