Detroit Holiday Food Bazaar Brings Local Artisanal Food To Eastern Market: Friday Night Only

You can start fattening up for the long winter at Friday night's Second Annual Holiday Food Bazaar in Eastern Market: On offer are two kinds of sausage, bagels, pies and other delicious local foodstuffs.

The Holiday Food Bazaar was started last year by Noelle Lothamer, who will also be participating in the Bazaar with her company Beau Bien Fine Foods. The Bazaar is just one in a long list of events this season promoting buying local for the holidays, but the only to focus on artisanal foods. Many of its 25 vendors can only be found at special events.

Leopold’s Books, Love’s Custard Pie, Drought Juice, Detroit Institute of Bagels, Miette, Pete’s Chocolate Co., El Azteco, RG Distribution, Hugh, The Rogue Estate, Perkins Pickles, Beau Bien Fine Foods, Native Kitchen, Al Meida, Marvin Shaouni Photography, Great Lakes Coffee Roasting Company, McClure’s Pickles, Simply Suzanne, Suddenly Sauer, Corridor Sausage Co., Gang of Pour, and Porktown Sausage.

Expect some food-related non-edibles, like vintage dishware, cutting boards and linens. Real Detroit gives background on some of the other vendors, so you can plan your shopping and eating accordingly.

The pop-up market is one night only, from 5 - 11 p.m., Friday, Dec. 9, at 2448 Market Street above Cost Plus Wines. Most vendors will be cash only.

If you want to experience all this noisy, action-packed Friday night has to offer, make the rounds of the Holiday Food Bazaar quickly. Then pick up your boombox and head over to Unsilent Night, an experimental caroling procession starting at 7 p.m. at 1515 Broadway.

Afterward you can head to another marketplace, this time in Ferndale, to see some live music during the Rust Belt Market's special late-night shopping extravaganza "NOT SO SILENT NIGHT" -- with beer, 6-10 p.m.
