Detroit News Crew Shot At While Attempting To Interview Elderly Man

Elderly Man Opens Fire On News Crew

A Detroit news crew was shot at on Monday while attempting to interview an elderly victim of a recent break-in.

WXYZ reporter Jonathan Carlson and a photographer were working on a story about an 88-year-old man who had been robbed and held at gunpoint earlier that week. When the news crew approached his door, the man reportedly came down with a pistol and opened fire on the two journalists.

Carlson recounted the events of the shooting in a post for WXYZ Detroit. The bullet missed the news crew and both men were unharmed.

Similar incidents of guns used against reporters have occurred across the country. An elderly man pulled a gun on an ABC-13 reporter and photographer in February, pointing it at them until they left his property. Last year, a Florida woman held a gun at a WESH-TV reporter who was visiting her home to cover a story. WREG reporter April Thompson was also threatened in 2012 while working on a story about a murder in Arkansas.
