Oakland County GOP Advertisement That Slams Detroit Is Pulled Off Air (VIDEO)

WATCH: GOP Ad Slamming Detroit Pulled From Air

A political advertisement that bashes Detroit and compares the city to its northern neighbor, Oakland County, has been removed from the airwaves, according to the Detroit News.

The advertisement praising Oakland County's "leadership team" was pulled after airing Monday and Tuesday, at the urging of County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, who is up for reelection this November.

"There's a place known for outrageous spending and rushing debt, for blight and decay, corruption and incompetence. Hard on business, terrible for jobs. That's Detroit," a voiceover says as stark photos of abandoned buildings and footage of former mayor Kwame Kilpatrick are shown. "We do things differently in Oakland County."

According to the News, the Michigan GOP put out the ad and initially denied Patterson's request, but has since decided to abide by his wishes.

L. Brooks Patterson said he's "always run campaigns built on positive messages," according to WDIV.

Patterson, who is recovering after an August auto accident left him with several broken bones, has served as county executive for five terms and is running for his sixth.
