A prestigious organization of architects wants public input on an effort to re-envision Detroit's riverfront.
The Detroit chapter of American Institute of Architects' Urban Priorities Committee sponsored a contest this year for ideas to redevelop the land around the Detroit River. A panel of jurors chose several winners earlier this month from a pool of about 400 entries submitted by architects around the world. But now AIA Detroit is also inviting the general public to share their thoughts about the design submissions.
People can choose their favorites on the AIA Detroit website through January 15th.
Voters can select as many entries as they like. Because this contest is being held to promote dialogue on design, a comment section has been included on the individual entry pages.
The winner of the public contest will receive $250 and a gift package from the Detroit Shoppe. The top three contestants will get a copy of a book released in 2013 that documents the competition.
Soo Bum You & Hyun Tek Yoon of New Jersey and South Korea took first prize in the juried competition for their vision of Hart Plaza as a woodland refuge.
However, there are no current plans to use any of the entries to redevelop the city's riverfront.
