Entire Town Celebrates Christmas In October For Boy With Terminal Cancer

Devin Kohlman may not make it to Christmas, so his Ohio community decided to make the teen’s favorite holiday come a little earlier this year.

The Port Clinton 13-year-old has been battling an aggressive brain cancer for more than a year and recently learned that he was no longer responding to treatment, Toledo News Now reported. When Devin got the devastating news, he said all he wanted was to spend time at home with friends and family and get the chance to celebrate Christmas.

His tight-knit community is making sure that he gets exactly that, and also took it one step further.

When Devin returned from Cincinnati's Children's Hospital on Sunday, hundreds of community members lined the streets to give the sick teen a jubilant homecoming.

"When we got over the bay we could see all the police cars, fire trucks, and everything lined up with lights," Devin’s Mom, Alexis, told ABC 13. "I told him that they were all there for him and his eyes were huge!"

The following day, the town got to work on fulfilling Devin’s dying wish by bringing Christmas right to his door. About 50 volunteers, people whom Devin has known forever and those whom he’s never met, congregated in a park outside of his house to string Christmas lights, decorate trees and build snowmen. They even released hundreds of balloons in the air.

"[We're] trying to give some type of relief to the parents to let them know that they're not in it alone. We're here to support them," Port Clinton Mayor Vincent Leone told Toledo News Now. "Personally, I believe in God and I pray that he's watching out for him. I know he is."
