"Devious Maids," Marc Cherry's latest primetime soap, didn't get a series order from ABC, but the show could be handed a lifeline from Lifetime. According to EW, Lifetime is in early talks to rescue the drama from pilot purgatory.
"Devious Maids" is loosely based on the telenovela "The Disorderly Maids Of The Neighborhood." The show follows four housekeepers -- Ana Ortiz, Judy Reyes, Dania Ramirez and Roselyn Sanchez -- of famous folk. Susan Lucci, Grant Show and Mariana Klaveno were also part of the cast. Eva Longoria was attached as an executive producer.
According to EW, Lifetime is looking at a number of pilots and canceled shows and talks are still preliminary. TVLine reports CBS's "Unforgettable" is also on the female-skewed network's radar.
Lifetime is no stranger to rescuing shows. The network recently picked up Fox's "America's Most Wanted" and snagged "Project Runway" away from Bravo.
"Devious Maids" came under a bit of fire about the representation of Latinos on TV as "the help." "It's a reality so why not tell their story and their point of view," Longoria told HuffPost TV. "I think people really need to look at the paradigm of television and go, 'This is a very powerful medium for Latinos to have a voice. Let's support it so that they will make more of these.'"
