The DGA Awards nominations have been announced, and Ben Affleck ("Argo"), Kathryn Bigelow ("Zero Dark Thirty"), Tom Hooper ("Les Miserables"), Ang Lee ("Life of Pi") and Steven Spielberg ("Lincoln") are the nominees.

The Directors Guild of America revealed its picks for Best Director on Tuesday.

Affleck, Bigelow and Spielberg were favored to earn nominations. The trio are expected to turn the trick again when the Oscar nominations are announced on Thursday. The final two slots were less concrete: Hooper and Lee were joined by David O. Russell ("Silver Linings Playbook") and Quentin Tarantino ("Django Unchained") as possible contenders. The DGA award nomination is a boon for Hooper, who had seen his awards-season profile flag in recent weeks. (He was snubbed at the less-predictive Golden Globes; Russell, it should be noted, was also left off the roster too.) That doesn't necessarily mean that all of the DGA nominees should also expect call on Thursday morning; only twice since 2000 has the DGA matched the Academy Awards five-for-five in the Best Director category.

The Academy Award nominations will be announced on Thursday, Jan. 10.
