Dharun Ravi Guilty: Tyler Clementi Roommate Verdict Inspires Impassioned Twitter Responses

Dharun Ravi Verdict Inspires Impassioned -- And Conflicted -- Responses

The conviction of former Rutgers University student Dharun Ravi for bias intimidation, invasion of privacy and tampering with evidence among other charges has inspired an impassioned, if conflicted, response on Twitter and other social media outlets.

Among those to condemn the jury's decision was "American Psycho" author Bret Easton Ellis, an outspoken critic of the case who called the verdict "outrageous (and vaguely racist)."

Meanwhile, others praised the conviction of the former roommate of gay student Tyler Clementi, with one saying they were "glad the Dharun Ravi jury didn't buy the 'just a prank' nonsense." Yet another drew attention to the case's overall socio-political implications: "Wait, so...Dharun Ravi got convicted, and that's racist. But if he had been acquitted, that definitely would have been homophobic, right?"
