Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.) was re-elected from the Denver-based First District Tuesday, defeating Republican Martin Walsh, the Associated Press reports.

DeGette, who was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1996, serves as one of the Democratic Party's Chief Deputy Whips. She ran unopposed in this year's Democratic primary.

She serves as a co-chair of the House Pro-Choice Caucus and is known for her civil rights advocacy.
