Throughout the course of 2013, we've seen the world of gay social networking evolve beyond the popularity of hook-up focused smartphone apps such as Grindr and Scruff.
Now, Apple has approved a new app that claims it is the "only gay social networking app for ages 12 and up," according to CNET.
Called Distinc.tt, the app reportedly "uses real-time collective knowledge to connect trendsetting crowds and travelers to the places and people that best reflect their distinct interests," and is described as "clean, social, and fun.”
How does it work? The app seeks to remove sex from the central focus of gay social networking, and enable users to discover new events, restaurants or vacation spots catered to their specific interests. Marketed as an app the user could could show to their mother, CEO Michael Belkin reportedly stated that he launched Distinc.tt because he became "disgusted by the tasteless torsos and imagery on gay social sites and apps... [and he wants] the good-taste part of the gay stereotype to gain traction with advertisers and cross the mainstream divide,” according to Back2Stonewall.
While there is currently a wait list for the app, Distinc.tt is offering a special offer to HuffPost readers. If you enter the code "HuffPostGay" on the app's website you can jump the queue for the free download!
