Sales of Judy Garland's "Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead" have skyrocketed in the wake of Margaret Thatcher's death, landing the "Wizard of Oz" song in the Top 10 on the U.K. iTunes chart.
The song's sales uptick wasn't a haphazard coincidence, but organized in part by a Facebook page that now has over 4,000 members.
Celebrating the passing of the former prime minister may be uncomfortable, but it's become somewhat popular in the entertainment world. Morrissey, who famously wrote the anti-Thatcher song "Margaret on the Guillotine," took to The Daily Beast to pen an angry post that described the Iron Lady as a "terror" without "an atom of humanity."
Russell Brand penned a Huffington Post blog about Thatcher's passing, adopting a somewhat more measured tone but nonetheless describing her thusly:
I do recall that even to a child her demeanour and every discernible action seemed to be to the detriment of our national spirit and identity. Her refusal to stand against apartheid, her civil war against the unions, her aggression towards our neighbours in Ireland and a taxation system that was devised in the dark ages, the bombing of a retreating ship -- it's just not British.
At the time of this writing, Garland's song was not charting in the U.S. iTunes store.
