The breakdown of a marriage doesn't happen overnight; usually it's a slow build littered with emotional land mines that eventually explode into divorce.

But making the decision to actually pull the plug is never an easy one.

In fact, the average person spends 24 months and 12 days thinking about a divorce before going ahead with it, according to a new survey from Slater & Gordon -- a family law firm in Britain who surveyed 1,000 divorcees.
