DJ Hall's 1950s Realism At Koplin Del Rio (PHOTOS)

The 1950s, A Little Too Realist

DJ Hall returns after a year hiatus with a collection that captures American nostalgia for a time so perfect it may never have truly existed.

Hall's paintings capture 1950's suburban scenarios as they appear in postcards and dreams, complete with Peter Pan hats, blossoming rose bushes and Disney lunch boxes. Hall brings her classic, realist aesthetic to a new subject matter, what she calls the "mythic time in American history." The realistically painted narratives depict histories which look too good to be true; pool parties and white picket fences are rendered with adoration that recalls post-war propaganda.

DJ Hall's work will be featured at Koplin Del Rio from September 10 - October 14, 2011.
