DNC Hits Joe Barton Apology Again In New Ad (VIDEO)

The DNC has launched its second ad highlighting Texas GOP Rep. Joe Barton's much derided apology to BP last week, and using it as evidence of a larger Republican policy of "apologizing to big oil."

The latest DNC ad comes on the heels of a similar commercial last week and recent news that Democrats would increase efforts to keep Barton's comments in the limelight until the November elections.

The ad, titled "How the GOP Would Govern," shows clips of recent statements by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) , Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and Kentucky Senate candidate Rand Paul that are critical of Obama's recent actions with BP or echo sympathy for the oil company over its treatment following the ongoing Gulf oil spill.

DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse said in a statement that what is "surprising is that while Gulf residents, workers, and businesses seek relief from the worst environmental disaster this nation has ever faced, Republican leaders would have the gall to come out in support of big oil companies, stating that the Administration should 'stop demonizing BP,' and that holding them accountable is 'un-American' and the $20 billion escrow fund is 'extortion' and a 'shakedown.' "

"If anything here is 'un-American,'" Woodhouse continued, "it's the Republicans' choice to shamelessly pander to big oil while the President works day-in and day-out to get much needed relief to the Gulf region."
