New 'Doctor Who' 50th Anniversary Special Images Released (PHOTOS)

The Doctors Unite!

A few new images from the highly anticipated "Doctor Who" 50th anniversary special, "The Day of the Doctor," have been released by the BBC.

While the photos don't reveal any new plot details, they do show the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors -- David Tennant and Matt Smith -- interacting with John Hurt who is rumored to be playing a previous more sinister incarnation of the Doctor.

Jenna Coleman, who plays the Doctor's current companion is featured in the released photos, but she will not be the only companion in the upcoming special. Billie Piper, who played the Tenth Doctor's companion, Rose will also be making a return appearance.

Aside from the title of the special and the 75-minute running time, not much is known about "The Day of the Doctor," but BBC America has said it will be "a celebration for long-time fans and an opportunity for those new to the series to jump onboard."

If various generations of the Doctor interacting weren't confusing enough, Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer, recently dropped a hint that "Doctor Who" fans have missed something major about the number of the Doctor's regenerations, and how the upcoming regeneration (when Peter Capaldi steps in as the titular character) may not be his last.

"The Day of the Doctor" will air on November 23 at the same time in the UK, US and other countries to avoid spoilers.
