'Doctor Who' At Comic-Con: The Ponds' Goodbye, A Western, More Daleks Than Ever And More Scoop

'Doctor Who' At Comic-Con: Cast Talks The Ponds' Goodbye

As "Doctor Who" readies for its seventh season, the cast Matt Smith (The Doctor), Karen Gillan (Amy Pond), Arthur Darvill (Rory Williams) and executive producers Steven Moffat and Caroline Skinner had a lot to talk about at Comic-Con on Sunday.

Though Moffatt was typically tight-lipped, he did reveal some details about Season 7, including what will happen when the cast -- and audience -- say goodbye to the Ponds.

Amy and Rory's last appearance will be in Season 7, Episode 5 and then The Doctor's new companion Clara, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman, will show up in Episode 8, which will be the "Doctor Who" Christmas special.

"I didn't stop crying for two weeks ... in between takes. I didn't hold it together, I've got to be honest," Gillan told the Comic-Con crowd via Sports Mole. Darvill added, "It was so exciting to film those final moments."

According to Digitial Spy, Smith said, "It's a climactic, fitting and I think brilliant end to what I think are my two favorite companions."

Moffatt said the Ponds' final episode was "a tough one to write. It was very, very difficult, because it's not just fiction. You're actually ending a real-life relationship." He did hint, however, that there's a way they could come back.

Gillan added that she's really going to miss a lot of things about being part of "Doctor Who." "I'm gonna miss getting to run down corridors away from imaginary monsters, instead of doing a show where you're just standing in a room talking," she said. "I'm going to miss all these guys. They are my best friends."

Moffatt and the cast also had some more Season 7 teases:
  • Will there be a multiple Doctor episode? "I'm not going to tell you. Sorry," Moffatt said.
  • Smith is a fan of one new guest star: "At the moment we've got Dame Diana Rigg in, and she's totally wonderful in it."
  • Daleks, Daleks everywhere: There will be "more Daleks than you've ever seen in one place. Just lots and lots and lots of Daleks. We've got the weeping angels, tragedy, comedy, westerns, absolutely everything. I don't think we've ever had a bigger variety of episodes than the ones we're about to show you," Moffatt told the Comic-Con fans.
  • The "Doctor" goes West: One episode called "A Town Called Mercy," was written by Toby Whithouse. The Comic-Con audience got to see a clip of the Doctor, Amy and Rory entering a bar.
  • Queen Nefertiti hits on the Doctor: In another new clip, which starts in Egypt 1334 BC, Queen Nefertiti pins the Doctor up against the door and then, he zips to the present to pick up Amy and Rory and a new traveller ... Rory's dad Brian is going on a trip in the TARDIS. The gang lands on a spaceship, where there are spiders ... and dinosaurs!
