Dog Drones: Are Canine Robots The Future Of Warfare?

Drones have changed the way militaries engage in modern-day wars, but a new technological development in robotics may drastically alter how we think about drones. DARPA, the arm of the U.S. Department of Defense in charge of military technology, has developed what might be the military man's new best friend: a robot dog that can run faster than Usain Bolt, follow its leader, and respond to commands. The LS3, or "Alphadog" as it's called, is so lifelike, that it can catch itself slipping on ice. As a December CNET story described the robodog: "The four-legged wonder, capable of carrying 400 pounds, easily navigates streams, ditches, and other challenging environments."

But should we be concerned where this new drone technology is taking us? Joining HuffPost Live host Alyona Minkovski to discuss the Alphadog were Cara Santa Maria, HuffPost senior science correspondant; Gary Marcus, cognitive scientist; Levi Newman, veteran and chief writer for the Veterans United Network;and Daniel H. Wilson, author of "Robopocalypse" and "Amped".
