Dog Refuses To Leave Owner's Side After She Was Killed In Hit-And-Run

Kelly Black and her dog Paco had been "inseparable," her family said.

It was a heartbreaking scene: There, in the middle of a Florida road, lay a dog -- his body limp on the ground, adamantly refusing to budge. His owner had been killed in a hit-and-run, and according to witnesses, the pooch refused to leave her side.

Kelly Black, 42, had been walking her dog Paco in Jacksonville on Friday morning when she was struck by a tractor-trailer and killed, according to First Coast News.

When police and emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they reportedly found Paco lying on the street next to his owner. According to WFOX, Paco "waited patiently while police covered up his owner's body. With his head held low, [he] watched as police put up crime scene tape around him."

Paco remained near the crash site for hours before Black’s family came to get him, Action News Jax reported.

The dog and his owner had been "inseparable," the family told Action News.

Police told reporters on Friday that there were no witnesses to the accident. They added that it’s possible that the driver was unaware he had hit Black.

The victim's mom told WFOX that she hopes someone will step forward with information about the crash.
