DOMA's Effect On Children: Daughter Of Gay Dads On Why Government Should Recognize Same-Sex Parents

What About DOMA's Effect On Children Of Gay Parents?

As the Supreme Court gears up to hear oral arguments challenging the Defense of Marriage Act (or DOMA) this month, the national battle for same-sex marriage is once again in the headlines.

But what about the children of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) couples who are affected by DOMA's restrictions?

The now-grown daughter of two gay dads spoke extensively about her experiences in a HuffPost Live discussion this week.

“The Supreme Court has essentially an opportunity here to…finally say that our families do matter, they do deserve the equal treatment and protections that straight families do, and really not have the kids be forgotten," Ella Robinson, whose father came out when she was just four, says. "Any child would be lucky to have two devoted parents."
