Don Lemon is getting a primetime run at 11 p.m. while Erin Burnett is on maternity leave.
Lemon — who is currently a weekend anchor and will step in for Burnett on "OutFront" some days at 7 p.m. — will host a half-hour program called "The 11th Hour" for the first three weeks of December. The show, which will replace 11 p.m. re-runs of "OutFront," will be produced by Piers Morgan's executive producer Jonathan Wald.
CNN has said that the show is not permanent, and will run until Burnett returns from maternity leave. Lemon will guest host Burnett's show at 7 p.m. for three weeks, while Jake Tapper will also guest host for three weeks.
FTVLive and Mediaite reported news of Lemon's new hosting duties first on Tuesday, and said that sources said that Lemon is being given time to test a new show. Sources also told Mediaite that last weekend was Lemon's final weekend hosting "CNN Newsroom."
The tinkering could be part of CNN president Jeff Zucker's latest attempt to revamp the network's programming. Since taking over in January, he has overseen the premiere of the network's new morning show "New Day" and the addition of Jake Tapper and Anthony Bourdain's "Parts Unknown," among other changes.
