Trump Won't Reveal Taxes That Would Show He's A Fraud, Harry Reid Says

If elected, the real estate mogul would be the "scammer-in-chief," according to the Senate Democratic leader.

WASHINGTON ― Donald Trump won’t release his taxes because they will reveal that everything about him is a fraud, including his alleged net worth, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) argued Tuesday in his latest broadside against the GOP presidential nominee.

Reid has been taking to the Senate floor almost daily since Congress returned from summer vacation to hammer away at Trump, calling him things like an “American nightmare” and a “human leech.”

Tuesday morning, Reid declared that if Trump beats Hillary Clinton in the race for the White House this year, it would put a crook in charge of the nation.

“If elected, Donald Trump would be the scammer-in-chief. Trump is a fraud,” Reid said. “He was born with an inheritance but lost his daddy’s wealth ... That’s why Donald Trump won’t release his tax returns ― that’s certainly one of the reasons.”

“Of course, he is not worth nearly as much as he claims to be,” Reid added, pointing to court depositions in which Trump admitted he based his net worth estimates on “feelings” and that it “fluctuates.”

“That’s a secret he doesn’t want anyone to know. He wants everyone to think he’s this big, rich, rich man,” Reid said. “We know that Trump lies about his money. I’m not making that up.”

Reid went on to belittle Trump business ventures such as Trump Steaks and the legally beset Trump University, as well as Trump’s charities, through which the mogul donates other people’s money. He’s also used the charity to buy himself things such as a painting and a Tim Tebow football helmet, not to mention improperly donate money to officials who were investigating him, Reid said.

“If he doesn’t have the money himself, which he obviously doesn’t, then he uses other people’s money. Other people’s money is put in his charity and he spends it on himself,” Reid charged.

“So this is who the Republicans want to be our president?” Reid asked, adding that the GOP-led Congress should consider spending money to investigate Trump the way it has used millions to investigate Clinton’s emails and the 2012 attack in Benghazi, Libya.

Otherwise, they’ll be enabling Trump’s greatest scam ever, Reid said.

“He’s always looking for a mark, some victim for one his schemes, because he’s incapable of making money honestly,” Reid said. “Now, our country is Trump’s next target. He wants this to be his biggest payoff ever.”

Trump’s campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
