Donald Trump attacked Hillary Clinton for her health once again on Wednesday, suggesting she was too weak to become president.
Trump referenced a video taken at a Sept. 11 anniversary event, in which Clinton appeared to lose her footing as she stepped into a waiting vehicle. The Democratic presidential nominee was leaving early after feeling overheated, and her campaign later disclosed that she had been diagnosed with pneumonia two days earlier. Clinton took several days off from the campaign to recover.
“I’ve been out since June 16th, it’s been full time, all the time. You see all the days off that Hillary takes,” Trump said at a rally in Council Bluffs, Iowa. “All those day offs and then she can’t even make it to her car. Isn’t it tough? All those day offs.”
Trump and his campaign have peddled the idea that Clinton isn’t physically fit to be president. Those accusations are just dressed-up sexism.
During Monday’s presidential debate, the former secretary of state had a pointed response to Trump’s accusations that she has taken too much time off from the campaign trail.
“I think Donald just criticized me for preparing for this debate. And yes, I did,” Clinton said. “And you know what else I’m prepared for? I’m prepared to be president, and I think that’s a good thing.”
Trump’s digs about his opponent’s stamina became even more absurd immediately after the debate. While Clinton went to speak to supporters, he chose to skip a watch party and head home instead.
