Continuing a streak of racially driven commentary, Donald Trump has chastised fellow Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush for speaking in Spanish on the campaign trail.
The real estate magnate made the comments to Breitbart News after Bush criticized Trump, telling reporters in Miami on Tuesday "el hombre no es conservador,” or "the man is not conservative." The jabs continue a string of intraparty bickering between high-profile Republican leaders and Trump, who they fear will alienate crucial voters with his crass statements.
"Besides, he tries to personalize everything," Bush said. "If you're not totally in agreement with him, you're an idiot, or stupid, or don't have energy, or blah blah blah."
Trump has come out swinging against the former Florida governor, telling Breitbart's Matthew Boyle that Bush is "a nice man. But he should really set the example by speaking English while in the United States.”
The businessman also told the outlet by the time he's finished (with eight years of the presidency, no less), "people will say [he's] a great conservative."
The comments are just the latest in his staunchly anti-immigration rhetoric that became prominent earlier this year after Trump said many undocumented immigrants were "rapists" with "lots of problems." He's since moved on to threaten the repeal of birthright citizenship and promise the construction of a wall along the southern border of America.
“I know this: We need a wall, and we need it badly,” he told Breitbart. “And it’s got to be an impenetrable wall. We’re taking in people legally, but we’re not taking in any more illegals, but we will take them in legally.”
