President Donald Trump seized on the verdict of the Kate Steinle case to push for his long-awaited Mexican border wall on Friday.

Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, was found not guilty on Thursday of murdering Steinle, who was fatally shot in San Fransisco in 2015. Garcia Zarate had been deported five times before Steinle’s death and had multiple felony convictions relating to drugs or illegal re-entry. He has said that he shot her but it was an accident.

Calling the jury’s decision “a complete travesty of justice,” Trump lamented that the Mexico-U.S. border was “weakly protected” under former President Barack Obama and demanded that the wall be built.

Trump and other immigration hard-liners have for years invoked the Steinle case to call for a crackdown on illegal immigration. Conservative provocateur Ann Coulter lamented on Thursday night that the 32-year-old “would still be alive if we had a wall.”
