Donna Karan: Anna Wintour Is 'Tough' But Misunderstood

"She has compassion. She has understanding. She has vision."

Donna Karan feels Anna Wintour's reputation for being hostile is undeserved "to a large extent," she told HuffPost Live in a Friday conversation.

"I think she has the most extraordinary heart on such a large level," the designer declared. "I think she has compassion. I think she has understanding. I think she has vision. I think she sees it from really dressing and addressing the consumer at large."

The designer and "My Journey" author didn't leave the praise at just that.

"I think the magazine and how she communicates -- I think she embodies the whole world," Karan continued. "It's not just Kim Kardashian, let us say, but certainly she's a major advocate of Hillary [Clinton's]."

Wintour, Vogue's editor-in-chief, has a cold public image that's a byproduct of her supreme managerial skills, said Karan.

"Anna is tough, and I think given who she is and what she shoulders, is huge," she said. "Taking it all on, you need some sort of screen. I wish I had one of those!"
