We've known for some time that Taco Bell's Doritos Locos tacos were popular -- they became the most popular item in Taco Bell history back in June. But even we were surprised to discover just how popular it was. In an earnings call with media and investors earlier this week, David Novak, the CEO of Taco Bell owner Yum Brands, announced that the chain had sold an eye-popping 325 million Doritos Locos tacos since bringing the product nationwide on March 8, 2012, just five months after passing the 200 million mark.
To put that in perspective, that's more than one Doritos-shelled taco for each American. It represents at least 60 million pounds, $500 millon and 60 billion calories worth of tacos.
No wonder Taco Bell is so eager to expand its range of Doritos Tacos flavors -- the Cool Ranch shell is coming to the chain this March.
