Dos and Don'ts when Hiring a Facebook Ads Manager

During one of my podcasts, Hit the Mic with The Stacey Harris, I was talking to my audience about hiring social media managers. Following that episode I received a lot of questions about specifically hiring someone to help with Facebook Ads. Because of the insane learning curve, hiring a manager for Facebook Ads can be a smart decision to help with your social media marketing.

Because of the complexity of Facebook Ads, there are some Dos and Don'ts when it comes to hiring a Facebook Ads manager.

DO understand what you want from the campaign. The more you know what's going in, the easier it's going to be to work with a consultant. Do you want a consultant to work with you through the process; give you tips and tricks to run your own campaign? Or would you prefer a manager to run the campaign completely? You must know what type of partnership you want before you even start looking for someone.

DO ask your network for referrals. Ask the people in your circle. Almost everyone either knows a consultant or may be a consultant themselves. You want to make sure you get someone you can trust and is a reputable source.

DO interview your potential Facebook Ads manager. Just because they worked well for someone else, doesn't mean that they are a good fit for you and your business. They should be aligned with your goals of your marketing campaign; what do you want to do and how do you want to do it? In fact, before you start interviewing, you should have an idea what your goals for your ads campaign looks like.

If you are unsure, there are some consultants that can help you realize your goals. If you need the clarity, make sure that is part of their services when hiring. A good consultant will ask a lot of questions and really listen to what you are saying (or not saying) when you are talking about your target market and goals. It's imperative that you give them as much of an overall picture of your business during that initial interview as possible because that is going to help them give you the best results.

DON'T let your potential managers guarantee results. No one should be giving you hard and fast numbers. Each ad is different; just as your business is different from your competitors. However, even if they shouldn't guarantee results, they should know an idea of what how the campaign should perform in your industry.

DO learn about Facebook Ads yourself. Even if you are hiring the campaign out, having the knowledge will allow you to run the basic parts of Facebook Ads and allow the boost investment to be more effective to your marketing campaign. Educating yourself will also give you more confidence during the interview and help you to make the best decisions on who to hire.
