Will Maggie Smith Finally Descend Below The Stairs By The End Of 'Downton'?

Goodness.

"I haven't been into the kitchens in twenty years!" the Dowager Countess exclaims in the latest "Downton Abbey" Season 6 trailer.

"Do you got your passport?" Isobel jokes. What a moment. Will we actually see Maggie Smith's character lower herself -- physically, metaphorically -- to visit the servant class below the stairs, whose struggles and triumphs we viewers have also witnessed over the course of the series? And what events might compel her to do such a thing?

Lady Mary seems to step outside her comfort zone, as well -- she's seen confronting an unwanted guest who's quickly escorted away by Anna. (We already suspect Mary's storyline may not wrap up so nicely.) The trailer also hints at some kind of revelation for Edith, under Rosamund's guidance.

While the ITV series premieres this Sunday for audiences overseas, non-pirating American fans will have to wait until the final season airs on PBS next year. Should it ever happen, though, a "Downton" movie would likely open at the same time for everyone.
