Rare Photo Of Dr. Seuss At Home In 1957 (PHOTO)

LOOK: Rare Photo Of Dr. Seuss At Home

While you'd have to live under a rock to not know "The Cat In The Hat," "Oh, The Places You'll Go!" and other classic children's books written and illustrated by Dr. Seuss, you may not know a lot about the man behind the pen name, Theodor Seuss Geisel.

Take a look at this rare 1957 photo of the author and his wife Helen outside their La Jolla, California home. At first glance we were surprised by his Mediterranean-style stucco home with a red tiled roof. It looks nothing like the zany colorful dwellings that he came up with for the pages of his books. In fact, the estate and surrounding desert terrain look like an elegant and peaceful place to live and write. We just wonder what he's pointing to in the distance. “Think and wonder. Wonder and think.”
