Dreaming of the Black Sea

A couple of years ago when I was interviewed for the first time -although being interviewed by that newspaper is one of my greatest regrets- I had said that I dreamed of moving to the Black Sea Region of Turkey and writing there. I wish I could start living there as soon as possible. Surrounded by the evergreen grass and with my animals in the barn... That really is my dream.

The Black Sea is a pretty tough sea with its wild waves, it's surrounded by Ukraine to the north, Russia to the northeast, Georgia to the east, Romania and Bulgaria to the west and Turkey to the south. It's famous for its anchovy. But of course the Black Sea I'm talking about is where the Turkish cities of Trabzon, Rize and Artvin are located, where the sound of "kemencha" is frequently heard. There, I just want to stare at the blue sea and the green forest. I want to listen to bagpipes in Artvin, watch the games of my beloved Trabzonspor -of which I'm going to talk about in detail in another article-, and I want to sleep in Rize where I have my origins. And I want to write of course. That must be peace.

Think about it, a perfect green valley surrounded by huge mountains, a river flowing under your house, cows in the barn and a typewriter in the room... well maybe not a typewriter. As long as I have the others I can write with a notebook as well. Istanbul, where I currently live, is beautiful as well but you know... Let's just say that urban life is pretty tiring. Maybe I was born at the wrong time and in the wrong place.

No matter how long you write about your dreams, it will still fall short. So I'll keep this short. I hope everybody lives where they desire and as they dream. Black Sea, I love you and I want you.
