This week's performances on "Duets" brought us straight to the movies -- with one not-so-happy ending for an amateur. Our trustee host, Quddus reminds the viewers that next week, the show goes live. The superstars do their best to get the best five out on the stage for America -- because clearly we know better than four award-winning artists. Let's go to the movie performances!
John Glosson and Jennifer Nettles
"My Heart Will Go On"
"Titanic" was a drama, but Jennifer and John were all laughs while rehearsing for this ballad. Robin had a problem with John's dance moves last week, so John suggests a little baton twirling? He was kidding (thank goodness), but John and Jennifer nailed the song's emotion, even earning another one of Kelly's love/hate comments: "I can't stand you." Robin loved that he "sings from his heart," which led to Jennifer's "Thanks, boo." John thought it was fabulous. I'd say he deserves the No. 1 spot -- like every first performer of the night.
Jordan Meredith and Kelly Clarkson
"Take My Breath Away"
I thought Jordan was a big Kelly fan, but apparently it runs in the family. Jordan brings along her parents to their rehearsal and dad could hardly contain his excitement to meet the "Since You Been Away" singer. (It's okay, dad. You got it 75% right.) Jordan picks this classic number that showcased not only her presence onstage, but also her vocal range. Robin said she had a "lovely voice," but wished she had the same emotions in her eyes. Jennifer "loved what she did to make the song her own" and saw how "comfortable [she was] in her skin." John ended with, "It was a beautifully arranged" song. All in all, the judges loved how they sounded together, but Jordan always seems to be missing that gusto factor. This performance got her the No. 2 slot.
Olivia Chisholm and Robin Thicke
"Stayin' Alive"
Oh, what a symbolic song. Robin has been going into duets battles with one soldier for two weeks now and he can't be happier with how hard she's fighting. He hopes this song will help her stay out of the bottom two. John "felt more power from her," complimenting them how good they look onstage together. Kelly built on John's comments and told Olivia she "fueled a fire" with the song, which was to her advantage. Jennifer "loves the upbeat stuff" and thought it was "super fun." Olivia's voice still isn't my favorite, but she managed to steal the No. 2 spot from Jordan.
Bridget Carrington and John Legend
"What's Love Got to Do With It?"
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Bridget seemed to soar with upbeat and Motown songs so John kept riding the same train. Losing a team member shook John up, but it didn't stop him from getting emotion from his remaining star, Bridget. Kelly was already not fond of the "linear melody" of the song before her performance, but was "entertained." Robin called her a "volcanic eruption" and "fearless." Jennifer Nettles gave an -ism for her comment: "I'm gonna give you a 'yes ma'am.'" She was so entertained, she forgot she was judging. Team Legend had the goal of getting Bridget to the No. 1 spot, but her scores got her to No. 2. Not too shabby, but let's kick it up a notch. I'd hate to see her go.
J Rome and Jennifer Nettles
"I Will Always Love You"
Jennifer just loves to defy the judges' comments, telling John Legend that he can "take some hormone supplements to make him more empathetic." How can you not laugh at this woman?Back to the song. J Rome felt the pressure with this famous song from an iconic woman. He knew the range of the notes and repeatedly said that it didn't matter if he was No. 1 in all previous weeks, he had to nail it. And by the sound of it, he did. Kelly turned schoolgirl and felt the need to raise her hand in order to praise the amateur with "You are so good. You are so good." Robin said, "There's a reason you are number one every week" and John cried. Not really, but he praised J Rome with "really awesome" and "well done." Lo and behold, J Rome snags that No. 1 spot again.
Jason Farol and Kelly Clarkson
"Come What May"
Kelly was determined to get Jason to commit to his vocal choices and, with this song choice, I'm glad that was her goal. My favorite movie and the last thing I wanted was a botched performance. Jason looked a bit stiff onstage, but he nailed some higher notes. Robin "loves his voice," but would've liked him to "lift up" more since he couldn't hear his tone in the lower parts. John agreed, saying the song was "too low for you." Jennifer thought it was a great performance with a great "musical theatre" feel to it. Theatrics aside, Jason earned the bottom slot. What does this mean? Jason and Jordan (a.k.a. Team KC) is going head-to-head in the a cappella round.
Kelly was not happy.
Jason sings his rendition of "Mamma Knows Best" with some growl and Jordan sings "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" with some sass. Both amateurs sang their best with the superstars praising how far these "youngest performers" have come in the competition. With the scores in, Jordan Meredith goes home.

Next week, the competition goes live and moves back to Thursday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Not sure how the voting will go down, but I'm not sure they do either.
