Duke University Responds To Teen's Viral Rejection Letter

When Duke University denied Siobhan O'Dell admission for the fall, she responded by rejecting her rejection letter. Now, it's the school's turn to respond.

After Siobhan's email to Duke went viral, others started sharing past letters from people who decided to not accept their rejection, such as this one. Though Siobhan sent her response as satire, she still had a message to send to the university.

"I just realized how much power these universities seem to have over students," she said in an email to The Huffington Post. "Their word is the end-all, be-all. But what if it wasn't? What if I treated them like they treated me?"

Siobhan tested it out using the same structure as another popular anti-rejection letter and ended up getting a reply. In the email posted on her Tumblr, the school explains she can ask for a reconsideration of its decision.

Luckily, Siobhan might not have to worry about that reconsideration process. Based on a photo from her Instagram, she's been accepted at the University of South Carolina for the fall.
