Four people were injured after strong winds kicked up a "Dust Devil" at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California on Wednesday, KABC reported.
Video shows the spiraling wind torrents lifting several tents and sending debris into the air, interrupting an event outside the stadium in advance of the college football semifinal set for New Year's Day. Screams can be heard as people scrambled to get out of the dust devil's path.
A person wearing a cow costume did not appear to be terribly alarmed, casually strolling away from the twisting winds and debris.
Three people suffered minor injuries, a fourth had a slight injury to a finger, Pasadena Fire Department spokeswoman Lisa Derderian told KTLA.
According to the National Weather Service, a dust devil or whirlwind is "a small, rapidly rotating wind that is made visible by the dust, dirt or debris it picks up," and "it develops best on clear, dry, hot afternoons."
A wind advisory is in effect for the San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, San Gabriel Valley and Ventura County coastal valleys until 9 a.m. PT on Thursday.
Set for Thursday, January 1, the 101st Rose Bowl Game will feature no. 2 Oregon and no. 3 Florida State, as they both vie for a spot in the College Football Playoff Championship on January 12, 2015.
