My heart skipped a beat when I heard a news report that President Bush was making a stop in Alaska this week on his way to Japan. Oh, my god, I thought, he must have seen the Fox News special on global warming, and was so moved that he wanted to see for himself the heartbreaking evidence of advanced climate change. Alaska is suffering the most extreme consequences right now, with entire villages having to relocate because of melting permafrost and soil erosion.

But then the reporter went on to say that Bush’s speech from Alaska would be about terrorism. That is like stopping in New Orleans and giving a speech about steroids in sports. What do we need to do to reach this administration?

Well, we haven’t tried comedy yet, so we are going to give that a shot (we could all use a good laugh right about now, including the president). We are going to give him and the country two hours of comedy and satire on a very unlikely subject -- you guessed it, global warming. This Sunday night at 8 p.m. on TBS, in the first primetime cause-oriented comedy special since Comic Relief. Hello, “Earth to America!” Are you listening?
