Edward Hayes Allegedly Shoots Shane Thompson, Bicyclist, To Death

Bicyclist Shot To Death; Fla. Police Seek Motive

Florida police are looking for a motive after a bike rider was gunned down Sunday, The Orlando Sentinel reported.

Edward Hayes was arrested 10 hours after allegedly shooting bicyclist Shane Thompson, 32, to death, authorities told WFTV news.

Witnesses say they heard two shots and saw victim Thompson bleeding from the head. He was rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead, according to CFNEWS 13.

Authorities told WFTV that a series of tips helped lead to the capture of Hayes.

"It was a lot of hard work. We had a lot of people working on it with our patrol, our criminal investigative division, [and] some specialty units were involved in helping us out. It was a big effort," said Cpl. John Nutting of the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Hayes, who is charged with second degree murder, is expected before a judge later today.
