Literary Prize: Eggers Leads List Of Award Winners

Two very different organizations announced writing award recipients today.

First, the Dayton Literary Peace Prize announced its finalists for writing that promotes peace.

The shortlist includes Dave Eggers (for "Zeitoun"), Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche (for "The Thing Around Your Neck"), and Ha Jin (for "A Good Fall").

Geraldine Brooks ("March," "Year Of Wonders," "People Of The Book") will receive the 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award for her renowned historical fiction.

Another set of awards, the 2010 Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers' Awards, were also announced.

The awards "are given annually to six women writers who demonstrate excellence and promise in the early stages of their careers."

The winners are: Hannah Dela Cruz Abrams (nonfiction), Rachel Aviv (nonfiction), Sara Elizabeth Johnson (poetry), Alexandria Marzano-Lesnevich (nonfiction), Laura Newbern (poetry), and Tiphanie Yanique (fiction).
