Based on his polls, Mitt Romney was so confident that he would be America's president today that he neglected to have a concession speech written. Votes count, polls don't.

Dr. James McHenry was one of Maryland's delegates to the 1787 Constitutional Convention. He reported that, after the Convention had concluded its work, a woman approached Dr. Franklin as he left Independence Hall.

Lady: "Well, Doctor, what have we got--a Republic or a Monarchy?"

Benjamin Franklin: "A Republic, if you can keep it."
