A fleet of huge vehicles came together to celebrate the life of a little boy.
More than 200 trucks led Friday’s funeral procession for 3-year-old Elijah Steffen, 12 News reported. The Arizona toddler, who died from a rare disease on August 21, loved trucks, and his family wanted to honor their son’s brief life with a celebratory parade.
Friday’s fleet, which included fire engines, monster trucks and military vehicles, grew from a Facebook post by a friend of Elijah’s family, asking for just one truck to show up at the funeral, ABC 15 reported. The post reached hundreds of strangers, who showed up with their vehicles to pay tribute to the young boy.
"That's what a community does," Sam Koster, who brought her truck, told the news outlet. "They all come together. And that's what this family needs."
Elijah had been battling Langerhans cell histiocytosis, according to 12 News, and was going to use his Make-A-Wish to attend the Monster Jam World Finals in Las Vegas. Earlier in August, the monster truck group had named Elijah their “Fan of the Week.” Sadly, Elijah wasn’t able to make the finals, but Friday’s procession gave him the super truck tour he deserved.
