Elizabeth Warren Preferred Over Hillary Clinton For President In 2016, Shows Poll Of Progressive Activists

Poll: Progressives Prefer Elizabeth Warren Over Hillary Clinton In 2016

A survey of attendees at this week's Take Back the American Dream conference in Washington, D.C. revealed that 59 percent of them want a female president in 2016.

Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren edged out Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as the top pick for the next Democratic presidential nominee by a margin of 32 to 27 percent, according to end-of-conference straw poll results released on Wednesday.

Of those same respondents, half said they are less enthusiastic to vote in this year’s presidential election than they were in 2008. When asked about President Barack Obama’s handling of the economy, more than half disapproved, a statistic that Robert Borosage, co-director of the Campaign for America's Future, attributed to growing resentment of Wall Street in the progressive movement.

The annual gathering of progressives wrapped up at the Washington Hilton after a three-day run that included panel discussions with liberal luminaries, such as former Vermont governor Howard Dean and former Obama administration official Van Jones.

On Wednesday, conference attendees marched to the headquarters of Crossroads GPS, the Karl Rove-founded super PAC.

The Democracy Corps/Take Back the American Dream Straw Poll was conducted Monday through Wednesday, with a sample of 209 attendees.
