Elton John Says He'll Marry David Furnish On 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'

WATCH: Elton John Reveals Wedding Plans To Jimmy Kimmel

Elton John made an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" last night to talk about the release of his new album "The Diving Board," the musician's gay identity and his relationship with longtime partner and co-parent David Furnish.

Following a joking congratulations about John being gay, Kimmel questioned the icon about his and Furnish's wedding plans following the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and the pair's decision to enter a civil partnership in 2005:

Yeah, we will [get married] next May, when [the legislation] comes out. I mean if those laws are being made for people like us who 30, 40 years ago, you know, it was very hard to even come out of the closet. In England, we've had the civil partnership, which we did in 2005. And that made a huge difference; a commitment to your relationship. I didn't think it would, but it did. And it really helped our relationship. And if the laws are going to help us again, then as a famous gay couple we will do it. It's our duty to do it, to make sure everyone knows that this is something that is a gift from, you know, that we never dreamed we would get.

John previously stated that he and Furnish would wed once an "equal marriage bill is passed."

In many ways a gay icon, John previously claimed that he remains rigidly committed to performing in Russia this December despite the country's recent LGBT crackdown and institutionalized anti-gay climate of fear and violence. In response, a Russian Muslim Cleric last week called John "the devil's work in the shape of a pederast" and the Union of Orthodox Brotherhoods is pressuring Russian officials to ban John's concert.

John and his partner Furnish have reportedly been together for 20 years and are currently raising two children together, having adopted their second son last January.

Check out the interview above -- John begins talking about his gay identity around the 2:20 mark.
