Emaciated Models To Be BANNED In Australia

Australia could lead the way in a total revamp of the fashion industry and its standards, The Daily Telegraph reports.

Youth Minister Kate Ellis unveiled a new plan that will ban using models with low BMIs and excessively muscular men, pull rapid weight loss and cosmetic surgery ads from magazines and mandate the stocking of larger size clothes in stores. Editors will also have to disclose when images have been retouched and they can't change a person's body shape.

The details will be worked out over the next six months, but magazines, modeling agencies and fashion labels who comply with the guidelines will receive a "body image-friendly symbol."
