Emile Hirsch Joins 'Savages,' New Oliver Stone Film

Emile Hirsch Gets Edgy New Job

For a group of Savages, this is shaping up to be a pretty fine cast.

"Into the Wild" star Emile Hirsch has signed on to the upcoming Oliver Stone book-to-film "Savages," Variety reports (via FirstShowing.net), though his role has yet to be released. He joins a star-studded cast that just last week added John Travolta, Uma Thurman and Blake Lively to a base of Benicio Del Toro, Selma Hayek and up-and-coming stars Taylor Kitsch and Aaron Johnson.

The film is about two pot growers whose girlfriend is held ransom by a Mexican drug cartel to induce them to produce their popular marijuana for their operation. Kitsch and Johnson play the pot growers, while Lively plays their girlfriend and Uma Thurman her mom. Travolta, as a DEA agent, will take on drug boss Hayek and strongman Del Toro.

Hirsch has been a bit off the radar since dazzling alongside Sean Penn in the 2008 hit "Milk," and playing a small role in 2009's "Taking Woodstock." He'll return strong in 2011, though, starring alongside Matthew McConaughey in "Killer Joe," and next to Olivia Thirlby in "The Darkest Hour."
