Missing Kansas College Student Found Safe In Germany (UPDATED)

Emilee Irsik, the missing Kansas college student who disappeared while traveling abroad, has been found safe in Germany, according to her mother.

UPDATE: According to The Wichita Eagle, authorities were tipped off by a British Airways employee who reported Irsik showed up at the Hamburg airport Thursday afternoon to purchase a ticket home. Irsik reportedly told police she had been traveling around Germany and did not realize she had been reported missing.

ORIGINAL STORY:

"I am happy to say she is right now in the hands of the police at the airport in Ambruck," the missing girl's mom, Sherry Irsik, told The Huffington Post.

According to Irsik, the circumstances of her daughter's disappearance and safe discovery are not yet clear.

"All I know is she was found safe," Irsik said. "I spoke with her very briefly. This all just happened."

Irsik, 20, left Wichita on Oct. 20 for a fall break trip to Germany. She was expected to return to the United States on Oct. 26, but she did not board her return flight.

Irsik's phone was turned off and her family was unable to make contact with her.

When Irsik, who's studying for a bachelor's degree in German at Emporia State University, failed to return, university staff contacted police.

A Facebook page was set up to help find Irsik and her photo and description was widely distributed in the US and abroad.

"We are so blessed and thankful and cannot even begin to express our gratitude to everyone who has said a prayer or done anything within their power to help us bring her home," Sherry Irsik said of all the support her family received.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates...
